The sub committee that met on January 14 consisting of Hassan Gebel, Joel and Sara Upton, and Ed Lewis proposes to replace the mission statement adopted in 1998 with the following: The purpose of the Worthington Historical Society is to identify, select, gather, preserve, maintain, catalogue and make accessible historical documents and significant memorabilia from the Town of Worthington, Massachusetts, to include church, library, government and family history. The purpose is also to stimulate and perpetuate interest in and appreciation for the history of the Town of Worthington. ------Activities that need to happen as WHS looks toward the future. Board agrees to the mission statement. Have a discussion with other constituencies concerning archival needs. This starts out as a series of one on one discussions between WHS and each constituent agency. Agencies include church, historical commission, library, school, town hall, and South Worthington Church. Consolidate archival needs and perform an assessment of our facility's capacities. Conduct an engineering assessment of the basement. Prepare a construction estimate for the design and construction of a storage vault. Determine possible sources of funding. Lois was certainly an active member of the community. It was a pleasure serving with her on the Board of Deacons for the church in the late 1980's and early 1990's. I learned a lot from her. I still go down to the old stone quarry she told me about in back of our house. So far, the society has received well over $500 in her memory. Unfortunately, some of the checks that have come in were made out to you. As a result, I cannot deposit them into the Historical Society Account. Could you please take the checks and cash them.
