    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[MASTER SERGEANT ASHLEY O DODGE.  Master Sergent Ashley O. Dodge was born to Philip Sheridan and Gladys H Dodge on October 2, 1927 in Worthington, MA.  The majority of his youth was spent growing up in the Western Mass area where he attended schools through the High School level.<br />
He attended recruit training at Parris Island, USMC and upon graduating in July of 1945, he was given the MOS (military occpational specialty) of 0143 (clerk typist) and assigned to Barracks Detachment, a U.S. Naval base in Boston, MA.  In 1946 he was assigned to Portsmouth Naval Base as a clerk typist in the Staff NCO Club.  Following that he was assigned to various duty statiins to include Camp Pendleton, California, 1st Marines in China and back to Camp Pendleton in1950 as a supply clerk.  In the 1950&#039;s he was assigned to HQBN at Quantico, VA as a property Sergeant, reassigned to Supply Company 1st CSG, then Inchon, Korea as the unit supply chief, then H&amp;S Co. at 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion, Camp Lejuene, NC.  In 1955 he was then assigned to Inspection  and Instruction staff in Worcester, MA asa supply chief.  After serving on the Inspection and Instruction staff he was stationed with the Marine Aircraft Group-31, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, in Miami, Flrida as theNon-Commissioned Officer in charge of MarineCorps property accounts.  The early 1960&#039;s were spent at HQBN, Albany, GA andthe U.S.Naval Base, Newport, RI as a unit spply chief.  September of 1964 sent him to HQCo. HQBN, and 3rd Marine Division in Danang, Vietnam for countery insurgency operations.  From Vietnam he was sent to Camp Smedley D. Butler in Okinawa, Japan. 1967 sent him closer to home to Maine Barracks, U. S. Naval Base Boston as a battalion supply chief. His final tour of duty was spent back at H&amp;S Company, 2nd AABN, Camp Lejeune, NC. He retired from the Marine Corps on April 1, 1969.<br />
     His decorations include, Navy Unit Commendation Medal for service in Korea, Good Conduct Medal with 7 stars, China Service Medal, Victory Medal WWII, National Defense Medal with 1 bronze star, Korean Presidential Uit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation for service in Vietnam, United Nations Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for service, meritorious mast and various letters of commendation and appreciation. (Jane Eldridge drew a diagram of the position of these medals on the back on the typed paper included with the photograph of Ashley Dodge (cf. 2006a- 018.)<br />
     Master Sergeant Dodge passed away on August 26, 1970 at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Chelsea MA. <br />
