This month two free historical presentations will take place in our building at 6 Williamsburg Road in Worthington, by the roundabout and Corners Grocery.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, May 17, at 2:00, local historian Steven V. Cormier will present on his latest book Good Golly…Missed Trolley<\/em>. <\/strong>(This event is sponsored by the Worthington Library.) The book examines the evolution and impact of the trolley system in Western Massachusetts, the various political and business actors involved, and why electric trolleys never made it to our town. Admission is free.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, May 31, at 3:00, Prof. Bailey Stone will deliver a presentation on his book Women in the Great European Revolutions<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The book explores the roles, mentalities, and destinies of royal, elite, and laboring-class women in Europe\u2019s classic sociopolitical revolutions: England\u2019s \u201cPuritan Revolution\u201d of 1640-60, the French Revolution of 1789, and the Russian Revolution of 1917.<\/p>\n

Stone, who currently\u00a0lives in Northampton, is Emeritus Professor of European History and International Relations and taught primarily at the University of Houston. Previously\u00a0he taught at Princeton University. His previous books include two studies of judicial politics in ancien r\u00e9gime<\/em> France, two studies\u00a0<\/em>of\u00a0the causes and trajectory of the French Revolution,\u00a0The Anatomy of Revolution Revisited: A Comparative Analysis of England, France, and Russia <\/em>(2014), and Rethinking Revolutionary Change in Europe: A Neostructuralist Approach <\/em>(2020). Stone now works in the Five Colleges Associates Program in Amherst.<\/p>\n
