Description
Gideon Lee was Samuel Buffington's son-in-law. This is Hampshire County Deeds, Book 39, page 209. Copy of mortgage given by Gideon Lee. Transcription:
TO all People to whom these presents shall come, GREETING.
Know ye that We Elisha Hubbard & Daniel Hubbard both of Worthington in Hampshire
For and in consideration of the sum of one thousand current money of the Commonwealth aforesaid, to us in hand paid before the ensealing hereof, by Gideon Lee of the City of New York Esqr the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge and are fully satisfied, contented, and paid, HAVE given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these Presents, do freely, clearly and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto him the said Gideon Lee, his Heirs and Assigns forever, a certain tract of land lying in Worthington aforesaid being the same lot of land bounded by west by Nathan Starr's, north by the [?], east by Timothy Meacham's land; south on land of Cyprian Meach & Abner Scot; south west on land of Peter Scott; south on land of Prentis Collins & Simon Parish; north on land of the grantors; said lot is supposed to contain one hundred acres
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the before granted Premises, with the appurtenances and privileges thereto belonging, to the said Gideon Lee, his Heirs and Assigns, To his and their own proper Use, Benefit and Behoof forever. And We the said Elisha & Daniel Hubbard for ourselves and our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, do Covenant, Promise and grant unto and with the said Gideon Lee, his Heirs and Assigns forever: That before and until the ensealing hereof We the true, sole, proper and lawful owner and possessor of the before granted Premises with the Appurtenances. And have in ourselves good right, full power and lawful authority to give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and confirm the same as aforesaid; and that free and clear, and freely and clearly exonerated, acquitted and discharged of and from all former and other Gifts, Grants, Bargains, Sales, Leases, Mortgages, Wills, Intails, Jointures, Dowries, Thirds, Executions, and Incumbrances whatsoever.

And furthermore, we the said Elisha & Daniel for ourselves, our Heirs, Executors and Administrators, do hereby Covenant, Promise and Engage the before-granted Premises, with the Appurtenances, unto the said Gideon Lee, his Heirs and Assigns forever to warrant, secure and Defend against the lawful Claims and Demands of any person or persons whatsoever.
IN Witness whereof we have hereunto set our Hands and Seals this seventeenth Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.

The condition of the within deed is such that whereas the said Elisha & Daniel did on the sixth day of July 1814 by three notes of that date for value received promise unto Gideon Lee or his order
Six hundred dollars on demand with interest
and also by three notes of June 11th 1814 promise unto Gideon Lee for value received to pay him the further sum of one hundred & fifty dollars fifty cents on demand with interest.
Now this is, if Elisha & Daniel shall well & truly pay each of said notes & the interest thereon according to their tenor, then the foregoing deed to be cancelled & of no effect. Otherwise to remain in full force.
